Final Documentary Feedback

During the showing of my final cut of the documentary to the class i was given some feedback later. This is some of the feedback I got:

Strengths

  • Taking both interviews and intertwining their story's together to create a narrative.
  • Framing especially the car shots
  • Making the interviewee relaxed so they can open up

Weaknesses

  • The audio was a bit off showed have put the audio above the wild track/ background music, as well, as the shift of volume between Leonora and Harold.
  • Could of had more cut aways

Final Script and Evaluation

My scriptwriting process, I created a few draft copies as I worked and refined them to produce my final script. This was  challenging...
I had to look at the feedback from my first draft script, and from that I saw that I needed to add more descriptive detail throughout the script. This helps myself as the director imagine how the shots and the props that will be on shoot during filming e.g. what can be seen on the shot, the beige sofa that Leonora will be sitting on.  The most obvious change I made to the script when I got feedback saying although it is a documentary the answers from the interviewee was still to be put in as rough indication of how the interview will be shaped. i also made one discreet change I made was adding when the interview is heard and not heard by putting after the the interviewer -  'not to be heard'. This informs the sound team and director to solo focuses on the interviewee.

Additionally, I had to add in cuts and scene headings. This was made it clearer to identify  the change in scenes e.g if its going to be  interior to exterior that the shot will be, also to address the specific location the scene will be shot or is meant to resemble for the director and whoever else reads from the script. This gives myself as the director an indication of timing when the scene changes.

Film Treatment

The Fake FairyTale

Length: 00:07:45:19

Theme and Context:
This is a short romantic film, that love isn't something that comes along or is just someone in your life now, it about learning to love and how you can grow, build and up lift one another. when i  set out to create this documentary I wasn't looking for the perfect love story i wanted to find two people that is opposite views on the dating world when they first got together. trying to tell the views that every man or women you in counter could be the one if you take time and effort to get to know one another before jumping straight into a relationship. Also divorce rates are high because newly weds because they partner didn't value the building blocks to a marriage of getting to know one another.

The key features of the film are as followed:

  1. Leonora's negativity on man because of child hood
  2. Harolds dating life
  3. Leonar's finally oppening up to to the dating world
  4. Family involvement
  5. Harold's transformation when he was trying to be with Leonora
  6. Leonora and Harold Relationship
  7. Wedding of Leonora and Harold

Target Audience:
The main target audience of this documentary is fans of romantic comedy . I would say age ranging from 12+ it can be viewed at a younger age but they may not grasp the full intensions why this documentary was created.  This documentary also lets people to relate to certain situation that they might go through but is a learning too as well how to cope.

Log Line:
Can Fairy tales be a reality?

synopsis:
This Documentary is based on the concept of fairy tales and  how they have come possible but in a unconventional way. Its of a couple who tell their story to the world that all theses bedtime story you heard as a little kid finding her prince or his princesses. cant still happen! All it takes is more then a glass work and investing time to know someone. there might be hope for this generation that has become cynical with divorce rate going up. Love is not a game that an be played heartless.

Application of Post Production: Video

I wanted to colour correct the documentary, after getting feedback from class, as it is an important part of post-production and ensuring that the colour balance is not changing from clip to clip, so by using colour correction the quality will be better. I used the effect 'colour balance', dragged and dropped in onto the relevant clip, and that colour corrected my clip . This made the tones even between each clip. The end result of using colour balance it looked more appealing and better neutralising the orange tones i had before in my clips.

Application of Post Production: Audio

After filming the documentary, I had to edit the documentary and put in the audio. I had the achieve footage of the wedding but I wanted there to be a voice over from the interview talking about the wedding. The footage that I filmed from the interview I stripped the sound away and cropped from the clip, then i added it to my timeline. Finally I moved the interview audio to fit with the footage from the wedding at the appropriate timing relating to what you on screen.

Again I also add wild tracks to my interview i had to place it underneath the audio from the interview so that the dialogue isn't lost under the wild track so that the wild track acts more of a background audio. I had to adjust the the levels in both wild track audio and interview audio so the volume is accurate to when it need to be louder and wen it need to fade out. i had to be very patient as this was very fiddly and time consuming.
